How do I decide if therapy is right for me?

People often consider therapy when life feels heavy, confusing, or when past experiences are still affecting them. It’s completely normal to feel unsure about talking to someone new, and therapy is meant to be supportive, safe, and grounded in respect.

If you’re on the fence, you can start with a no-charge 15‑minute phone consultation. It’s a simple way to ask questions, share what’s going on, and get a feel for whether this support is a good fit.

Some people find one session is enough, while others choose to continue for a while. Your needs and goals are unique, and therapy can be shaped around what works best for you.

What can I expect from a typical counselling/therapy session?

In therapy, you can expect a safe, non‑judgmental space where your experiences are heard and respected. I’ll be fully present with you, working to build a comfortable, trusting connection.

Each session focuses on what matters most to you. I’ll ask about your goals for our time together, and we’ll collaborate on the best way to approach them. This might include talking about current challenges or gently exploring past experiences that still affect you.

Throughout the session, I’ll check in to make sure you feel comfortable and that the pace feels right. Your needs and your voice guide the process.

By the end of a session, you’ll leave with practical skills or insights to carry into your daily life—tools that help you notice patterns, connect with your emotions and body, and support your healing between sessions.

How important is self-care?

Self-care is a vital part of living that can easily get overlooked because of other competing demands and expectations we are trying to meet.

Self-care is necessary for our health; even the most minor efforts can reap big rewards for us. This could involve sleeping well, walking, sitting with a pet, or enjoying tea or coffee. Small steps towards self-care will be an essential part of therapy as we encourage healthier habits and seek greater enjoyment each day.

Discovering what you value in life will also be an essential piece of the work that we do together. Knowing your core values and learning how to live by them can be a life-changing experience.

Do you offer couples or family therapy/counselling?

While clients are welcome to bring a partner or family member to their session, we do not offer couples or family counselling.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Cancelled or rescheduled appointments require 24 hours' notice before the appointment time to avoid being billed for the session.

Where are you located?

I’m based in Brantford, Ontario, and am licensed to work with clients anywhere in the province.

Sessions are provided online through secure video or telephone.
